Ordering books, especially used books, on the internet can be a challenge on occasion. We've been selling books on the net since 1996 and have run across virtually every kind of description imaginable. Some dealers refer to their books as 'mint' or 'acceptable' or perhaps even 'excellent'. None of these terms describes a used book properly. This kind of description should be an important hint as to the type of experience the dealer has, or even whether they have the knowledge required to sell books. The following represent accepted book descriptions: As New, Fine, Very Good, Good(+ or-), Fair and Poor or Reading Copy.

We've ordered books from dealers that described their books improperly and often as not have found them lacking in book selling acumen. So, beware when you see those terms. You may not get what you bargained for.

Our least favorite sellers are what we call the book#!?%  (I'll let you fill in the blanks). They generally sell for a very low price, but often the books are a wreck and not worth buying. Their condition descriptions are inaccurate or not even listed.  One can only assume that they price a first edition the same as a book that's been left out in the rain. These sellers are to be avoided at all costs. To put it mildly, I consider them 'dumpster divers'. I've ordered  from them (once only, I'm no fool) and received a book  that looked like it had a complete spaghetti dinner dropped on it. You'll see them peddling their wares for one dollar (or a penny, if possible), but what you'll receive is anyone's guess.  More than likely, the book arrives damaged from improper packaging, no bubble wrap or newspaper padding -- just thrown in a mailer and sent on it's way. Caveat Emptor.
